Kinoatelje X BOFF

As part of the deepened collaboration between Kinoatelje and the Bovec Outdoor Film Festival (BOFF), we have curated two cinematic experiences that enrich this year's festival program. The film Alpha was created in cooperation with Kinovozlišče, a segment of the official European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 program, while The Run of Your Life will arrive to Bovec via the traveling Soča-Isonzo Cinema. This collaboration strengthens the connection between audiences and cultures through the power of moving images. Our involvement extends beyond programming, as Kinoatelje also contributes technical equipment and support to the festival.

ALPHA
d: Jan-Willem van Ewijk, 2024, 100', Slovenian subtitles

A Dutch film created as a minority Slovenian co-production, Alfa takes viewers to snow-covered slopes and equally icy family relationships. While the story is set in the Swiss Alps, the breathtaking mountain scenery was primarily filmed in Slovenia's highlands, with the crew shooting in Kanin, Zelenica, Pokljuka, and Vogel.

The film follows Rein, who moves to a small Alpine village after his mother's death. There, he spends his time meditating and working as a snowboarding instructor. His peaceful, solitary life is disrupted by the arrival of his extroverted father, Gijs. When Rein's patience reaches its limit, he takes his father away from the group to continue their ascent of the mountain alone. Amid the unforgiving wilderness, their struggle for dominance turns into a fight for survival.

The film had its world premiere on Wednesday in the Venice Days section at the 81st Venice Film Festival, where it received the Europa Cinemas Label Award 2024, granted by the pan-European network Europa Cinemas.

In collaboration with Kinoatelje and Kinovozlišče, part of the official GO! 2025 European Capital of Culture program.

THE RUN OF YOUR LIFE

d: Mircea Gherase & Lucian Mircu, 2024, 85', English subtitles

Slovenian Premiere

The film follows the inspiring journey of exceptional ultramarathon runners, including Tibi Ușeriu, Corneliu Buliga, Eva Hochbauer, Toma Coconea, and five others. Together, they embark on an epic adventure along Via Transilvanica, the longest and most beautiful continuous hiking trail in Romania. Spanning 1,400 kilometers and over 30,000 meters of elevation gain, the journey lasts 24 days. Between the two endpoints that stretch across the country (Putna-Drobeta), countless challenges unfold.

Every day offers reasons to give up: threats from bears and shepherd dogs, getting lost in the night, relentless races under the sun and rain, peeling skin, and falling toenails. By the end, all masks come off. None of the runners are guaranteed to reach the final destination, and they all know that suffering is inevitable.

The film won the Best Romanian Film award at the Alpin Film Festival (Brașov, Romania, September 2024). It premiered nationally on November 8, 2024, quickly becoming a hit in Romania.

In collaboration with Kinoatelje and the traveling Soča-Isonzo Cinema.
