Celebration of Infinite Visions
Celebration of Infinite Visions
In early October, Nova Gorica and Gorizia will come alive with two cultural events – the cross-border film festival Tribute to a Vision and the international scientific conference with an artistic program Avant-garde and the End of the World.
The rich program will conclude on Saturday, October 12th, with a music and film-themed final party at Mostovna.
Evening program at Mostovna:
Mala Dvorana, 19:30 – New Media Performance Odkruški vedute II
Through two conceptually complementary works, the new media artwork Odkruški vedute explores intimate and collective localized stories of individuals facing phenomena such as aging, the disappearance of public spaces, the fragmentation of memory, the loss of meaningful, symbolic, and social places of value, freedom, and the desire to be part of social structures. Both works are based on poetry: the first on the poem V Drevo by the award-winning poet Ana Pepelnik, and the second on the award-winning poetry collection Mleček, žbunje: groboci v njem by Blaž Božič.
Odkruški vedute I & II are two new media intertwining works by six contemporary artists: Ana Pepelnik (voice), Miha Šajina – Shekuza (sound), Lina Rica (visuals/video), Blaž Božič (voice), Aleš Hieng – Zergon (sound), and Farah Sara Kurnik – Liara T'Soni (visuals/video).
Gallery Tir, 20:00 – First Crossings Award Ceremony
A festive awards ceremony will highlight filmmakers included in the program of the First Crossings section. The best film in the competitive program will be selected by an international jury consisting of Olga Toni, Ionut Mares, and Piera Nodari. The film will also be screened. Additionally, an audience award will be presented for the favorite film chosen by young viewers, encouraging young film enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the world of short films.
Eclectic diversity is perhaps the most accurate description of this year's selection of short films. For the 7th edition of the First Crossings section and the 25th anniversary of the Tribute to a Vision international cross-border festival, we've prepared a fresh and exciting combination of new and traditional film forms. Particularly appealing is the resurgence of classic film formats like 16mm and Super 8, especially in contemporary films infused with a nostalgic veil.
Mala Dvorana, 21:00 – Sulla Lingua concert
Sulla Lingua is the only Australian-Italian electroacoustic noise rock trio in the world, featuring Anthony Pateras (tētēma/PIVIXKI) on electronics, Stefano Pilia (Zu, Rokia Traoré, Massimo Volume) on guitar, and Riccardo La Foresta on drums and his own creation, the Drummophone. Sulla Lingua means "on the tongue" or "about the tongue" in Italian, summarizing their aesthetic, which moves between highs and lows – they might refer to Roland Barthes or salute Gene Simmons; they haven’t fully decided yet.
The concert is organized in collaboration with the international music festival SAJETA and the project FOCUS of the Mink Tolmin Association.
Velika Dvorana, 22:00 – Masaž concert
Masaž is a young band that will always fill you with fresh energy, taking you into new dimensions with their groovy dance rhythms and nostalgic beats from the '90s. United by their love for music, their guiding principle remains the same – to create a unique, increasingly recognizable sound they love to share with anyone who listens. In 2021, they won the title of champions of the 8th season of Špil Liga, and the following year, they were one of the club marathoners of Radio Študent. So far, they have released three singles – Jama, V leže, and Brezno, and at the end of 2023, they also released their first album 3d ritmi. They invite you to join them in dancing and indulge in the pleasures of frequencies that massage your auditory taste buds.
Masaž are Aleksander Cavazza, Timotej Poznič, and Sinja Smokvina.
Join us on Saturday to experience how art foretells the future and unveils the veils leading to the end of the world – or perhaps the beginning of something entirely new.
Admission is free, all are welcome!
The event is the result of a collaboration between the cross-border film festival Tribute to a Vision, organized by Kinoatelje, and the international scientific conference with an artistic program Avant-garde and the End of the World, organized by the Research Center for the Humanities and the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica.
