Ignoti alla città

"Beyond the city, a new city is born. New laws are born, where the law is the enemy..."

This is Cecilia Mangini’s debut film and the first of her three collaborations with Pier Paolo Pasolini, inspired by his novel "Ragazzi di vita" (Garzanti, 1955). Post-war Italy was undergoing significant socio-cultural transformations, which were largely overlooked by the film industry. By giving a voice to the most vulnerable—youth and their families on the outskirts of Rome, striving to make sense of their lives—the film caused such discomfort among some politicians in power that its distribution was restricted.
