Following the documentary "Ignoti alla città" from 1958, this is the second collaboration between Cecilia Mangini and Pier Paolo Pasolini. The film was inspired by Pasolini’s first novel "Ragazzi di vita" (Garzanti, 1955). The protagonists are young people from the post-war generation living on the margins of society, in the suburbs of Rome, where nature is rapidly being replaced by concrete. These youths, caught between violence and destiny, spend their days by suburban streams and in the city. According to Cecilia Mangini, the commentary written by Pasolini in the first person and in Roman dialect is one of his most beautiful texts, filled with nostalgia for a youth gone by, accompanied by a deep warmth.
