Motivation 

Villi Hermann's films captivate with their consistency and precision in revealing the essence of things. Although the films are appealing, they remain a subject of culture, with almost nothing commercial about them. Villi Hermann's perspective reveals the confluences between the microcosm of the Ticino canton—a place of linguistic and cultural blending that is simultaneously removed from historical events and involved in them—and the intoxicating macrocosm of the world. The intersection between the local and global dimensions of the world shows how both are just sides of the same image. Villi Hermann demonstrates that he understands the value of his own starting meridian, his own history, and environment, and that he appreciates them, but he does not pay excessive attention to geographical boundaries, as these are obstacles that both man and filmmaker from the border must and want to overcome. He also does not regard the habit of separating documentary from feature films, genre from auteur, as all find their common foundation in mastering the medium and awareness of the political nature of every social event.
